At HARTMANN TRESORE, you can always count on certified, tried-and-tested quality in all resistance grades for the private and commercial sectors. Our burglar-proof safes have been certified by neutral and independent certification bodies such as VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH or the ESSA (European Security Systems Association e.V.). The safes comply with the current European standards as well as the stringent German safety standards, and can be insured in consultation with your insurance provider – up to €375,000, for example, for the highest safety class. What’s more, linking up with a certified burglar alarm system increases the level of cover further still, so be sure to get in touch with your insurance company.

Finding the right level of anti-burglary protection

Safes are differentiated according to different anti-burglary protection classes: the security levels and resistance grades.

The most important standard is EN 1143-1, which is also used by Cologne-based risk management company ‘VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH’ for testing purposes (VdS 2450). A safe that has been tested according to EN 1143-1 is also known as a ‘strongbox’. Another recognised standard is EN 14450, which differentiates between security levels S1 and S2.

Criteria that play a role in the security level classification include the design (such as ‘multi-walled door and corpus’ or ‘special concrete filling’) as well as concrete, classified security features such as the ‘Resistance Unit’ (RU), which indicates the resistance of a safe against burglary. These security features are used to calculate the insurance values for the safes (as non-binding reference values).

Certified strongboxes for your valuables

According to German statistics, over 100,000 burglaries are reported every year, which equates to over 11 burglaries per hour. When you put it like that, it’s clear that any one of us could be hit at any given time. This is why every private home and company stands to benefit from a burglar-proof safe, as important documents, paperwork and certificates are often very difficult – if not impossible – to recover once they have been lost.

Particularly in the case of home burglaries, it appears that perpetrators are no longer focusing exclusively on the more obvious valuables such as cash, jewellery and watches, but on anything and everything that they could stand to profit from. This includes gadgets that the majority of us have around the house, such as laptops, tablets, digital cameras and mobile phones, which is why they should be locked out of sight when we are not at home. After all, in addition to the material loss, we could also stand to lose precious memories in the form of saved photographs or videos.

A fireproof safe is the ideal choice if you would like to protect important commercial or private documents securely against fire damage. They are specially designed for storing contracts, balance sheets, policies, certificates and identification cards in addition to items with sentimental value and personal keepsakes, such as family photos or letters.

Fireproof safes protect their contents not only from fire damage, but also from fumes and extinguishing water.

Various fire protection classes

HARTMANN offers fireproof safes in a range of different fire protection classes. Your contents will be protected against fire damage for 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.

Burglar-proof and fireproof

A burglar-proof and fireproof safe offers you the peace of mind that your important documents will be stowed safely away in the event of not only a burglary, but also a fire – that’s double the security for your valuables!

At HARTMANN TRESORE, you can browse our range of duplex cabinets, as they’re known, which offer both certified anti-burglary protection and fire protection in many different combinations of fire protection classes and anti-burglary protection classes. These extend right through to safes with resistance grade III anti-burglary protection and 120 minutes of fire protection for paper (S 120 P) according to EN 1047-1.

When it comes to helping you protect your most prized and valuable possessions in any company or private household, we’re always right by your side with the perfect burglar-proof and fireproof safe.

Some burglar-proof and fireproof safes are specially designed to be integrated within existing furniture, and a number of these are even available with a fireproof diskette insert (S 60 DIS), which offers 60 minutes of fire protection for sensitive electronic data carriers.

If you’re interested in creating a secure storage facility for larger volumes of documents within a room, an alternative to a strongbox is a strongroom door. These bullet-proof doors offer protection for entire rooms or sections of a building and can be styled in various ways to ensure the strongroom door complements the rest of the space perfectly.

Anti-burglary protection or fire protection

Buying a safe is a lifetime investment. Take the time to find out about the various different types of anti-burglary and fire protection classes so that you can be sure of making an informed decision.

Strongbox insurance cover

Your choice of product will depend on the level of coverage that you would either like require. If, for example, you intend to keep valuable jewellery and watches in your safe, the cost involved is going to start adding up very quickly. Speak to your insurance provider to find out what requirements are in place for the various different levels of coverage. Take a look at our tips and information on purchasing a safe for an overview of what you should bear in mind when making a decision. Whilst the safes we sell are new, we have also put together a few tips on buying a used strongbox in the hope that this will be of use to you.

Strongbox classes

When it comes to anti-burglary protection for safes, there are a number of different standards in place. The safes that offer the highest protection have been tested and certified according to the internationally recognised European standard EN 1143-1. These are officially known as strongboxes. A burglary test is carried out and the results of this are used to differentiate between the different resistance grades. At HARTMANN TRESORE, you will find strongboxes in Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4 or higher. Further standards include EN 14450 and VDMA 24992.

When it comes to the level of fire protection afforded by a safe, the most important consideration is the length of time for which the documents stored inside will remain protected against fire damage – for example, 30, 60 or 120 minutes. The most important standard in terms of fire protection is EN 1047-1, with another being EN 15659, although its fire-protection requirements are somewhat less stringent.
