The storage of narcotics in hospital subunits (such as wards), doctor’s surgeries, and retirement and care homes requires a strongbox with a minimum resistance class of N (0). Lower requirements only exist for storing BTM quantities that do not exceed the average daily requirements of a single subunit.

When it comes to storing narcotics in hospital and public pharmacies, the minimum requirements stipulate a strongbox with resistance grade I or a strongroom door with resistance grade III or better.

In accordance with Section 10, Paragraph 1 of the German “BO ÄK SH/MBO-Ä” regulation, doctors are required to document all patient treatment in full*. These records then have to be kept for a period of 10 years (Section 10, Paragraph 3). At the same time, however, doctors also have a duty of confidentiality towards their patients (Section 9, Paragraph 1). For this reason, stringent security standards apply when it comes to handling patient files and data to prevent unauthorised parties from accessing the confidential information.

In the case of hard-copy patient files, we recommend storing these in burglar-proof and fireproof strongboxes. Of course, these are also ideal for storing any other important documents, such as employee data and contracts. Electronic data carriers have to be stored in special data media safes with a certain level of fire protection for sensitive storage media.

If one of more safes are not enough for storing patient data and other documents, then an archive is the obvious solution. With this in mind, the options include strongroom doors for securing entire rooms or sections of a building, or modular strongrooms, which can either be set up independently within a building or else as an adaptation to an existing room.
