Our floor safes
at a glance

A security-tested floor safe provides a discreet and space-saving solution in which to store your valuables. As this type of safe is anchored to the ground, it falls within the category of built-in safes. Just like a wall safe, it is protected by the surrounding walls and a concrete casing.

This makes it particularly effective against burglars, although it does require advance planning – for example, when building a new house.

Buying a floor safe

HARTMANN TRESORE offers a wide range of different floor safes, including round safes and larger safes right through to security level S2 according to EN 14450.

How secure are floor safes?

Depending on the model, our floor safes are covered up to security level S2 according to EN 14450. This means you can insure up to €30,000 as a private individual and up to €2500 as a business. That said, a built-in floor safe in conjunction with a burglar alarm system can increase your insurance cover. Speak to your insurance company for more accurate information.

If you are interested in insurance higher-value items, we recommend looking at our burglar-proof safes and our damages value table for the insurance values.

Installing a floor safe

This safe is supplied ready to secure to the floor and must be installed properly by a trained specialist. In-wall safes are encased in concrete and must be surrounded by a concrete layer measuring 10 mm thick.

The fewer people who know about your safe and its location, the lower the security risk. Install the safe flush somewhere it will be particularly safe and establish a secure connection with the floor.

Hiding your valuables securely

You’ve seen it in all the movies: the typical hiding place for a wall safe has always been – and still is – behind a picture or painting. In the case of a floor safe, these are generally concealed under a rug. These hiding places don’t take long at all to find as they are so well known, and one of the advantages of in-wall safes is the ability to hide them.

When considering alternative hiding places, you need to think about how often you will actually need to use the safe. If you are storing valuables in the safe that you very rarely need to access, you can start to get really creative. There aren’t many burglars who would bother looking under a cupboard that has been tidied away and screwed down, for example. Even using a rug in combination with something heavy, such as a desk or table, is still a better hiding place. Even better, an overflowing dumping heap complete with heavy boxes or garden tools in the cellar can appear very unsuspecting.

In any case, providing good camouflage for your safe is always sure to increase security. Since the clear-up rates for burglaries are very low, the use of a safe – ideally in combination with a burglar alarm system – is a wise investment when it comes to protecting your valuables.

Is a floor safe fireproof and waterproof?

Floor safes offer excellent protection against fire. Their protection against water, on the other hand, is somewhat limited. If you select a safe that offers protection against not only fire, but also extinguishing water and splash water, you can rest assured of a certain level of security. Flooding or burst pipes, however, always represent a risk that cannot be ruled out on account of their design. This is where special cassettes and waterproof cases come into play for essential documents, as these provide additional protection against water in the event of an emergency.
