Remarks on fire protection and fire security
A cabinet with security level A is already more safe than a wardrobe, for example. With security level B the fire protection insulation reduces the heat generation inside the safe.
Fire-protected safes according to EN 15659 (light fire-proof cabinets) protect documents and valuables from heat for an exposure time of 30 or 60 minutes (LFS 30 P or LFS 60 P). Therefore, the requirements of both of these fire grades lie unter S 60 P according to EN 1047-1.
Fire-proof safes according to EN 1047-1 protect the contents from fire, smoke and extinguishing water for 60 or 120 minutes. They have to pass the hardest of all fire tests at the Institute of Material Testing at the University of Braunschweig (MPA). For the test the safe is heated up to a temperature of 1090°C for 60 or 120 minutes and then gets droppedfrom a distance of 9,15 m onto a bed of gravel or crushed stone. This equates to a fall out of a three-storey building that is on fire.
