Server rooms

IT security is of paramount importance to any modern business. The requirements specified for server rooms and computing centres is therefore very high: these rooms must withstand and be protected from overheating, fire and flue gases as well as from loss of power and from burglary.

Irrespective of whether your EDP requires 10 or 100 square metres of space – we are your point of contact when it comes to securing server rooms. In cooperation with our customers, we plan and build EDP units and server rooms as well as computing centres that protect the ‘heart’ of your business from all physical dangers.

Protection from physical dangers

When planning a server room, the following possible failure causes need to be taken into consideration:

  • loss of power
  • air conditioning system failure
  • overvoltage
  • cable fire
  • fire
  • fire water
  • flue gases
  • burglary
  • vandalism
  • environmental influences such as floods, lightning strikes or similar.

Adherence to legal guidelines

Alongside the protection of important data, safe EDP units and server rooms also offer the following advantages:

  • According to the new Basel framework agreement concerning the owner’s equity recommendation for credit banks (Basel II), the met precautions for the security of business organisation (and this includes safes and tested server rooms) flow into the overall appraisal of creditworthiness.
  • Insurances concur an improved risk situation more positively if fire precautions according to the guideline of the 2000-08 of the VdS (The Authority for Safety and Security) have been met.
  • According to the law passed concerning control and transparency in business (KonTraG, 01.05.1998), businesses are obliged to install an RMS system (Risk Management System) in order to minimise risks. This affects in-company areas such as HVACR or the power supply etc. If a business does not install an RSM system, then management is deemed personally liable in the event of any damage.
